Contacting a Doctor

SURGERIES

You can telephone or come to the surgery any time during opening hours to make an appointment. Any of the receptionists can book an appointment for you. Each appointment is 10 minutes long and is for one person only. You can book an appointment with any doctor, subject to availability.

TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS

Telephone consultations are available to everyone and can be booked as an alternative to face to face appointments. In most cases this can be just as effective as a visit to the practice. Advice will be given and prescriptions issued when necessary, saving valuable time for both you and your doctor.
If you wish to have a telephone consultation please request this as you would any other appointment. At the time of booking, please leave a contact number and a doctor will ring you back at the approximate time given. For some of the surgeries you can request to speak to the doctor of your choice, subject to availability.

RESULTS

Ann Rigney-Stuart (Path Links Clerk) is responsible for all blood and x-ray results including follow up action. She is the point of contact for both our patients and hospital laboratories. Please contact the surgery between 10.30am - 12.30pm for results of tests, allowing 5 - 7 days after the specimen was taken or as instructed by the doctor or nurse.

VISITS

Home visits are strictly for house bound patients and those who are genuinely unable to visit the surgery. To request a home visit please telephone the surgery before 10.30am, this will enable the doctors to plan their workload and prioritise the most urgent calls first. Please try to give as much information as possible to the receptionist, she will pass this on to a doctor who will call you back, prior to their visit. Home visits will usually take place between 12.00 noon and 4.00pm each week day.

OUT OF HOURS EMERGENCIES

If you need an urgent visit or advice outside normal surgery hours, please telephone the normal surgery number and you will be transferred automatically to the out of hours service. (0151-727-1155) You will either be offered telephone advice by a doctor, asked to attend a special G.P. out of hours centre (by appointment only), or a visit as appropriate. Please be considerate and do not call if your problem can wait until the surgery is
open.
